Wisconsin Towns and Places
Alma
Alma in Buffalo County was originally known as the Twelve Mile Bluff because of its prominent rock formation on the bluff overlooking the town and the Mississippi River . Riverboat pilots used that as navigation guide. Much of the town has been authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The Buena Vista lookout over it all is a high point.
During a later visit, I took these shots. You’ll never tire of the town or Buena Vista.
First, the local bakery, what a treat!
Next, up at Buena Vista! It don’t get better than this!
This tug is moving a lot of barges up the Mississippi, and she is approaching a lock.
