Beef
I have come across these beef cattle breeds in Wisconsin:
Angus
Hereford
Simmental
Shorthorn
Limousin
Main-Anjou
I am activating these breeds one by one. Boxed Links exist for those I have activated.
The Wisconsin Beef Council will tell you, “Raising beef is a complex process.” The Dairy industry leads the pack producing about $5.9 billion in revenues per year in the state. Cattle and calves produce about $1.6 billion. there are almost 28,000 farms and ranches in Wisconsin as of 2023 raising beef cattle and calves, with 3.4 million head. You might be surprised to learn the state has over 14,000 beef producers and more than 6,000 dairy producers.
Most beef farms have herds of 50 or less. Farmers are using beef cattle to diversify. Wisconsin farmers often switch from dairy cattle to beef cattle, while others do both.
