The University of Wisconsin began offering short courses to farmers at the madison campus in 1885. The university has announced it will offer a 16-week Farm & Industry Short Course at the River Falls (UW_RF) campus strut g in fall 2023, October 30, 2023 - March 15, 2024.
The program's first year will focus on the fundamentals of the dairy farm operation, particularly on managing cattle. The second year will stress the management of the entire farm.
The university will accept 24 students. UW-madison and UW-Platteville will provide faculty to support the endeavor. Students will live on the River Falls campus and will earn college credits. Contact Steve Helm at 715-425-3704.
UW-RF has provided training in the agricultural sciences since 1912. It operates two laboratory farms that produce crops and support horse, beef, and dairy cattle herds, a swineherd, and a sheep flock. The facilities provide hands-on education.
The school’s Dairy Learning Center is on the Mann Valley Farm, about two miles from the university campus. It trains students on the latest dairy technology and skills.
